On August 8, 1985, Richland County sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant and conducted a search in and around the house where defendant, Dale VanMatre, lived with his family. The following day, VanMatre was charged by information with unlawful possession of cannabis (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 56V2, par. 704(d)) and unlawful manufacture of cannabis (Ill. Rev.
