The defendant, Marcus Price, appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-59 (a) (l),1 carrying a weapon in a vehicle in violation of General Statutes § 29-382 and carrying a pistol without a permit in violation of General Statutes § 29-35 (a).3 The trial court also found, as a matter of *419law, that the defendant had committed a class B felony with a firearm, warranting a mandatory, nonsuspendable five year term of imprisonment pursuant to General Statutes § 53-202k.4
