OPINION
FRY, Judge.
{1} Child-Defendant Jose S. appeals the trial court’s imposition of an adult sentence, alleging that the trial court’s procedural and substantive errors in conducting his amenability hearing require reversal. We consider the proper procedures that a trial court must follow in determining a youthful offender’s amenability to treatment and, in the event that a youthful offender is determined not to be amenable to treatment, the proper procedures for sentencing the youthful offender to adult sanctions under NMSA 1978, §§ 32A-2-17, -20 (2005).
