CARNES, Circuit Judge:

Robert Waites Guthrie pleaded conditionally guilty to charges that he took, possessed, sold, and transported Alabama red-bellied turtles (Pseudemys alabamensis) in violation of the Endangered Species Act, 16 U.S.C. §§ 1531 et seq. (“ESA”), and that he conspired to sell alligator snapping turtles (Ma-croclemys temminicki) in violation of the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981, 16 U.S.C. §§ 3371 et seq. (“Lacey Act”).
