The Cohasset Water Company, hereinafter called the company, was specially incorporated by St. 1886, c. 128. See amendments by St. 1908, c.’ 406, and St. 1946, c. 489. Section 9 of the statute of 1886 contains provisions authorizing the town to purchase at any time the franchise and property of the company. At a town meeting on March 2, 1946, the town, by more than the required- two thirds of the voters present and voting, voted to purchase the franchise, corporate property, and all the rights, powers and privileges of the company in accordance with the statute.
