Plaintiffs-appellants, Oscar and Amy Krems, appeal from the judgment of the trial court that granted summary judgment in favor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer (“PD”) and University Hospitals of Cleveland (“UH”). Plaintiffs sought public donations to help with the medical bills for their terminally ill son. In two separate articles, the PD criticized the couple for raising money when, in fact, a state program was paying the bills. Thereafter, plaintiffs brought a defamation action against the newspaper and the hospital. The trial court granted summary judgment for defendants.…
