The State appeals from an order of the circuit court of Kendall County suppressing statements made by defendant, Sandra Vasquez, during a videotaped interview with police. The interview took place in a room in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital where defendant was recovering from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident that claimed the lives of five others. At the time of the interview, defendant had already been ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) (625 ILCS 5/11 — 501(a)(2) (West 2006)) and had been released on a recognizance bond.
