CRIST, Presiding Judge.

This action involves an attempted settlement on the record of a motion to modify a dissolution decree. We reverse and remand with directions.

*789The marriage of the parties was dissolved on April 4, 1978. On August 4, 1978, respondent (hereinafter “mother”) filed a motion to modify the dissolution decree. On July 2, 1979, a hearing began on the motion as amended. At the beginning of the proceeding, on July 3,1979, the parties dictated a settlement into the record as follows:
