Petitioners Stephen and Donna Saccoc-cia were convicted of multiple offenses involving the laundering of proceeds from illegal drug transactions. After their convictions and sentences were affirmed on appeal, see United States v. Saccoccia, 58 F.3d 754 (1st Cir.1995); United States v. Hurley, 63 F.3d 1 (1st Cir.1995), they filed motions under 28 U.S.C. § 2255 to vacate their sentences, advancing a series of claims.
