JONES, Justice.

Appellant Hoang Viet Huu Nguyen was convicted of murder, see Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 19.02(b) (West 1994), and engaging in organized criminal activity, see id. § 71.02. The jury assessed punishment at ninety-nine years’ confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division, for each conviction.
