I. INTRODUCTION

On October 21, 1999, Plaintiff Amazon.com filed a complaint in this Court alleging patent infringement by Defendants Barnesandnoble.com Inc. and Barnesandnoble.com LLC (hereinafter referred to collectively as “Barnesand-noble.com”). The patent in question is United States Patent No. 5,960,411 (the ’411 patent), which was issued on September 28, 1999. The ’411 patent describes a Method and System for Placing a Purchase Order Via a Communications Network and includes 26 claims.
