When John Beres died on April 26, 1943, he was a member in good standing of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, a beneficial society. For more than twenty years he had held a benefit certificate for $1,000 issued by the federation, payable at his death. In it, his daughter Elizabeth Beres, living in Hungary, was the named beneficiary.
