OPINION
PAGE, Justice.
In May 1996, Theodore Sherman Ashby was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the September 1995 shooting death of Leslie Wayne Bryant and is currently serving a sentence of life in prison. On direct appeal, we affirmed Ashby’s conviction. State v. Ashby, 567 N.W.2d 21, 24 (Minn.1997). 1 In July 2007, Ashby filed a petition for postconviction relief. The postconviction court determined that Ash-by’s claims were proeedurally barred and denied the petition without an evidentiary hearing. We affirm.
