Kilday, Judge:

Recruit William Kidd, Jr., the accused, was tried by general court-martial convened by the Commanding General, Second Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia. Contrary to his plea of not guilty, he was convicted of conspiracy to commit extortion, four specifications of extortion, and seven specifications of assault, in violation of Articles 81, 127, and 128 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC §§ 881, 927, and 928, respectively.
