On June 16, 2000, Denise Ford, appellant, filed a complaint in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County against Sherman Douglas, appellee. Appellant alleged that on January 1, 1999, an incident occurred between the parties outside of a nightclub in the District of Columbia.
