OPINION OF THE COURT

COX, Judge:

Appellant was tried by a general court-martial composed of members. Despite her pleas, she was convicted of attempted murder, in violation of Article 80, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 880. She was sentenced to a dismissal, confinement for 10 years, and forfeiture of $1000.00 pay per month for 120 months. *158The convening authority approved the dismissal but reduced the confinement and the period of forfeitures to 5 years. The Court of Military Review affirmed the findings and sentence. 22 M.J. 672 (1986). This Court granted review to consider:1
