Appellant Sair Guzman-Mata appeals the sentence imposed after he pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry into the United States, in violation of 8 U.S.C. § 1326. Specifically, Guzman-Mata challenges the district court’s imposition of a 16-level enhancement (under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines Manual (U.S.S.G.) § 2L1.2(b)(l)(A)) for Guzman-Mata’s prior conviction under 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1)(A). 1 We hold that a conviction under 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1) is categorically an “alien smuggling offense” under U.S.S.G. § 2L1.2(b)(l)(A).
