SENTENCING MEMORANDUM

ADELMAN, District Judge.

Defendant Lawrence Matthews pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine, contrary to 21 U.S.C. § 841(b)(1)(A), and carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking offense, contrary to 18 U.S.C. § 924(c). Both statutes carry mandatory minimum penalties (ten years and five years, respectively). The government moved for a sentence reduction under 18 U.S.C. § 3553(e) and U.S.S.G. § 5K1.1 to reward defendant for his substantial assistance.
