¶ 51. (dissenting). On August 28, 1992, John Setagord was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Setagord appealed, and the court of appeals concluded that Wis. Stat. § 973.014 (1991-92)1 clearly and unambiguously did not permit the circuit court to impose a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for Setagord's crime. State v. Setagord, 187 Wis. 2d 340, 523 N.W.2d 124 (Ct. App. 1994). Accordingly, the court of appeals reversed the sentence and remanded for resentencing.
