WIGGINS, Justice.
Michael Pecenka’s employment was terminated at Fareway Stores, Inc. (Fare-way) after he refused to remove an ear stud during the course of his employment: Fareway had an unwritten personal grooming code prohibiting males but not females from wearing earrings or studs. Pecenka sued Fareway for sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) and the Iowa Civil Rights Act (ICRA). Fareway moved for summary judgment.
