1Opinion of the CourtJustice Goldenhersh

Plaintiff, Wayne D. Walter, brought this action against defendants, David Shelton and Carriage House Hotels, Ltd., a corporation (hereinafter defendant), to recover damages for personal injuries he sustained when the intoxicated Shelton attacked him on July 18, 1988. Shelton failed to appear at the trial and is not a party to this appeal. Defendant appeals from a jury verdict of the circuit court of Effing-ham County finding it liable for plaintiff’s injuries under section 6 — 21 of the Liquor Control Act of 1934 (Dramshop Act) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 43, par. 135).
