In 2011, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (“CREW”) filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Department of Justice for records related to the agency’s investigation and prosecution of Paul J. Magliocchetti, a prominent lobbyist who pled guilty to federal campaign finance law violations. After DOJ categorically withheld all potentially responsive records based on privacy grounds, CREW filed a lawsuit in this Court.
