State v. Jensen

Washington Supreme Court

1Opinion of the CourtMadsen, J.

¶1 This case concerns the unit of prosecution for solicitation to commit murder. While in jail for threatening his wife, William Jensen solicited a fellow inmate to murder four members of his family. He repeated the solicitation to the inmate’s purported crime partner and offered an additional sum of money to kill the youngest victim. A jury convicted Jensen of four counts of solicitation of first degree murder, one for each target victim. Jensen contends three of the convictions must be vacated under this court’s recent decision. State v. Varnell, 162 Wn.2d 165, 170 P.3d 24 (2007).
