Petitioner, a seaman, brought an action at law under the Jones Act1 against the respondent shipowner. He *661alleged that while in the service of its ship he suffered injuries which resulted in the loss of his right eye, because of the negligence of the ship’s doctor in treating him and in failing to have him hospitalized ashore. The trial court directed a verdict against him.
