The ultimate question presented by this record is whether the board of managers of the Michigan soldiers’ home at Grand Rapids ever had the right to take and retain permanently all or any part of the pensions of inmates of that institution.
Defendants have appealed from a decree of the circuit court of Kent county, in chancery, awarding $8,373.14 to 126 of the 206 complainants, in sums ranging from $4.95 to a maximum of $541.86 (principal and interest), being pension money received by said complainants from the United States government while residents of said soldiers’ home, and retained by…
