On the 6th of November, 1888, at the-general eleciion held on that day, the rival candidates for the Federal House of Representatives from the Third Congressional district of this State, were John D. Alderson and James IT. McGinnis. There was a demand for a recount of the vote of Kanawha county, which is in said district, and the vote of several precincts became involved in controversy.
