This case began with a frightening incident involving a teacher, appellant Mildred Moore, at Northwood Junior High School, where she taught home economics. On December 4, 1996, appellant discovered in her iced tea glass and pitcher some rat poison and straight pins that an investigation revealed had been placed there by one or more students. In the following days, appellant attempted to continue working but was physically unable to do so.
