INTRODUCTION

Docket 22 began as a first amended petition filed in the Indian Claims Commission on October 18, 1950, by the White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona (“plaintiff”) and another tribe that departed the litigation on January 19, 1981, after settlement of its claims. Suit was authorized by the Indian Claims Commission Act of August 13, 1946, Pub.L. No. 79-726, § 2, 60 Stat. 1049, 1050, as amended, 25 U.S.C. § 70a (1976) (omitted from Code pursuant to Commission termination on Sept. 30, 1978).
