BRIAN HOYLE, Justice.
In this original mandamus proceeding, Lester Collins, M.D. complains of the trial court’s order granting a motion for protective order filed by Kelly Regían and James Regían, the real parties in interest. The issue presented is whether a trial court abuses its discretion by prohibiting ex parte communications with a claimant’s nonparty treating physicians when the claimant has signed a statutorily required authorization for release of health information and filed a medical malpractice suit against a treating physician. 1 This issue is one of first impression.
