I. INTRODUCTION
This matter is before this court on an appeal from an order denying defendant ARCO Chemical Company’s (“ARCO”) motion for judgment as a matter of law, or in the alternative, for a new trial, or in the alternative, for a remittitur, entered on June 30, 1998, in this employment discrimination case following a jury verdict in favor of the plaintiff, William P.
