MIKVA, Circuit Judge:
William Barwick sued Otis Elevator Company (“Otis”) for injuries resulting from the malfunction of an Otis elevator at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. A jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Barwick for damages of $4000. On appeal from the judgment entered on the jury’s verdict, Otis challenges the district court’s denial of its motion for directed verdict, and the court’s instruction to the jury on res ipsa loquitur.
