OPINION

DOWNIE, Judge.

¶ 1 Edward Schrader appeals from a judgment finding him guilty of forcible detainer. Because the superior court improperly applied service of process rules applicable to special detainer proceedings, we vacate the judgment.

FACTS AND PROCEDURAL HISTORY

¶ 2 On September 9, 2009, Arizona Real Estate purchased a Scottsdale home at a trustee’s sale. Arizona Real Estate gave Schrader, the current occupant and previous owner, written notice to vacate the premises.
