The United States recovered judgment in this court, in 1871, against James Burgess, Stephen Major, Greenville Wilson, and William 0. Tarkington, as sureties upon the bond of 'Garland D. Bose, postmaster at Indianapolis. In the year following, Tark*591mgton was adjudicated a bankrupt, and the defendant was appointed and confirmed trustee, to receive and administer upon the estate, under the direction of a committee of creditors and the orders of the court. The trustees converted the assets into money, which he distributed among the general creditors who had proved their claims, including himself.…
