1,A jury found Mazen Hamdan guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of La. R.S. 14:95.1. He appeals his conviction.1 He argues that the evidence supporting the prosecution’s assertion that he possessed a firearm is insufficient to sustain its burden on that essential element of the offense. He also argues that his right to confront and cross-examine one of his accusers, a police officer who had testified at the preliminary hearing but who was not called as a prosecution witness at the trial itself, was violated.
