F. C. Thornton was indicted in the Circuit Court of Charlotte county for having made to the State Corporation Commission a false statement of the financial condition of the Charlotte Banking and Insurance Company, knowing it to be false, and he being the cashier of that institution. He demurred to this indictment, the demurrer was overruled, he pleaded not guilty, and, upon the trial of that issue, the jury found' him guilty, and fixed his imprisonment in the State penitentiary for one year, and assessed a fine against him of seven hundred dollars,…
