The parties will be referred to as they appeared in the trial court: the plaintiff in error as plaintiff, and the defendants in error as defendants.

The plaintiff sued the defendants, W. R. Joyce and John Reynolds, to recover on a certain promissory note executed by the defendant Joyce and indorsed by the defendant Reynolds for the principal sum of $500. The defendants .filed a joint answer admitting- the execution of the note, and alleging that the same was executed without consideration and had been fully paid.
