On the 23rd day of April, 1964, shortly after midnight, a nurse returning from her duties at a Brooklyn hospital was on her way home in the East New York area of Brooklyn and was alleged to have been attacked by a culprit who attempted to commit a forcible act of rape upon her. The defendant was arrested on the following morning and was identified as the victim’s assailant. Widespread publicity, through the media of newspapers, television and radio, was given to the circumstances relating to the apprehension of the alleged perpetrator of the crime.
