MEMORANDUM OPINION

These consolidated cases are before the Court on the motion for summary judgment of the defendant, Meridian Engineering, Inc. (“Meridian”). Initially, by order dated April 19,1989, summary judgment was denied. The matter then was certified for interlocutory appeal on the issue of whether the financial incompetence of a negligent independent contractor would be a sufficient basis for holding its employer liable.
