The defendant, William Taft, appeals, following our grant of certification, from the judgment of the Appellate Court affirming the trial court’s judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-59 (a) (5)2 and carrying a pistol without a permit in violation of General Statutes § 29-35 (a).3 We granted the defendant’s petition for certification to appeal limited to the following question: “Did the Appellate Court properly conclude that the trial court properly denied the defendant’s motion for a…
