Respondents own a vacant lot in the Borough of Emmaus, Lehigh County. Local zoning ordinances require a •miTnumm of 12-foot sideyard width for the construction of single-family dwellings so as to maintain the open character of the community. Application was made to the Borough’s zoning office for construction approval of a structure which would require sideyard variances of three feet on the north side and seven feet on the south side. The application was denied by the zoning officer and the Zoning Hearing Board.
