DYER, Circuit Judge:

The principal thrust of Strickland’s appeal is that a New York Police Department detective, redolent of good intentions and with an avuncular manner, deceived Strickland into believing that incriminating statements which he made during a police investigation into a shooting attack on him while attempting to purchase heroin, were to be used solely for the state prosecution of Strickland’s attackers and had no Januslike implication that would lead to his indictment, prosecution and conviction for conspiring to unlawfully distribute heroin hydrochloride in violation of 21…
