At common law a conspiracy was the combination of two or more persons to do something, the act to be done, or the means of doing it, being unlawful, or, as more elaborately expressed, a combination of two or more persons for the purpose of accomplishing a criminal or unlawful object, or an object neither criminal nor unlawful, by criminal or unlawful means.
