1Opinion of the CourtFellows, J.
(after stating the facts). Plaintiff is the riparian owner of lands on the St. Clair river. As *306such owner its title extends to the thread of the stream. Webber v. Boom Co., 62 Mich. 626; Lorman v. Benson, 8 Mich. 18; Butler v. Railroad Co., 85 Mich. 246; Fletcher v. Boom Co., 51 Mich. 277. The character of such title to the subaqueous lands is the important question in this case; and it becomes necessary to determine such character, both as against the sovereign, when the question of navigation is involved, and against private parties when the governmental interests are not at stake.
