This original proceeding arises out of the People's motion for conflict-free counsel seeking to disqualify the defendant's public defenders from continuing to represent him. The People allege that the prior representation of three of their witnesses by attorneys within the Office of the State Public Defender creates a conflict warranting disqualification of the entire Public Defender's Office and the appointment of Alternate Defense Counsel. The defendant and the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel counter that no such conflict exists because neither individual attorney involved in this case…
