This is an original proceeding in habeas corpus. On the 80th day of June, 1900, the petitioner, John D. .Norton, was convioted in the court of common pleas of Cherokee and Crawford counties of murder in the second degree, and sentenced to imprisonment at hard labor in the state penitentiary for a term of twenty years.
