After a jury trial, defendant, Jared Willmer, was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse (720 ILCS 5/12 — 16(d) (West 2008)) and was sentenced to 4 years’ probation and 120 days in the county jail. Defendant appeals his conviction, arguing that: (1) the trial court erred in denying his motion to declare a mistrial, which alleged that the jury was hopelessly deadlocked; and (2) the trial court erred in denying his posttrial motion for new trial, which alleged that the jury had improperly considered extraneous information in reaching a verdict.
