Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, the defendant, Madison Hobley, was found guilty of seven counts of felony murder, one count of arson, and seven counts of aggravated arson. The charges related to an arson fire in which seven persons died and several other persons were injured. Following a sentencing hearing, defendant was sentenced to death. This court affirmed defendant’s convictions and death sentence on direct appeal. People v. Hobley, 159 Ill. 2d 272 (1994). Defendant’s petition for a writ of certiorari was denied. Hobley v.
