MOORE, Justice.

The sole question presented for review is whether defendant was denied effective assistance of counsel by the trial judge’s denial of a motion for a continuance made at the beginning of trial.

To determine this issue, it is necessary to review the history of the case and the continuances which had been previously granted. The alleged murder occurred on 12 February 1976. On 17 February 1976, defendant was adjudged an indigent and attorney T. Worth Coltrane was appointed to represent him.
