Appellants Paul J. Levine and Marie Lynne Levine filed a petition in the Land Court against the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) seeking to expunge a memorandum on their certificate of title to a parcel of registered property located in Kihei, Maui (the subject property). The memorandum that the Levines sought to have expunged was an attachment that had been recorded on behalf of Sentinel Bank (Sentinel), for whom the FDIC serves as receiver.
