This action originated in the court below upon an informatiori in the nature of a quo 'Warranto against appellee, requiring him to show by what authority of law he was exercising the powers and duties of the office of registrar of titles in and for the county of Cook. In answer to the information the defendant set up the act of the legislature entitled “An act concerning land titles,” approved and in force May 1, 1897, commonly known as the “Torrens law.” (Laws of 1897, p. 141.)
